Learning Starts At Home

We should always encourage our children to investigate the world around them. The first school setting is the home in which a child is nurtured. Make sure that your child is familiar with numbers, shapes, and the difference of the five senses. Play is essential to any child’s growth. Parents always have to make time to be with and encourage their child. We just can’t depend on the schools to do this job. It is tough enough being a teacher. However, it is the parents duty to make sure that kids are learning at home first before heading to school. The first 3 – 5 years are crucial in a child’s cognitive development. Children who are read to at home have stronger confidence heading into the elementary level. A child should hear the parent read, in efforts to sound out words. Most parents dump off on the school system. However, a child has a better chance of overall success when the learning starts at home.

Education’s Sports Analogy

When I think of the direction in which the education system, I think of the NBA’s recent lockout. This is a strong disconnect between administrators and students, such as there was between the players and owners. It seems that the best teachers of the crop teach at the most priveleged of schools. Unfair advantage. Most of the teachers at poverty stricken communities burn out far too easily and are extremely underpaid. Our students are numbers in a system, just mere statistics. NCLB (No Child Left Behind) policy and logic has failed us greatly as we have lost our advantage in the sciences and technological advances. How do we keep our schools from the same favoritism shown in the college’s BCS system? We have to create a system of equality that disperses teacher’s to the needy as well as the deserving. We should care about teacjomg mathematics, reading skills, and inspiring our kids to be problem solvers instead of protecting political and corporate interests. This is how we can make America great again.
