Involvement In The Political Process

Most of us(myself included) dread the commercials, barrage of advertisements, campaign slogans, smear campaigns, endless debates, and complications that the new election season brings. However, it is our civic duty and responsibility to become involved in this process of democracy. Most countries do not enjoy the liberties that US citizens do. However, with liberty comes responsibility. We all have issues dear to our hearts.  However, I cannot complain and not do my part by voting. I am proud to have the opportunity to vote because we have a say. So, find a candidate, support him/her and get involved. I challenge you to learn the terminology and learn about the process. You will have a sense of pride if you do so.

God Wants Our Joy To Be Full

I am reminded years ago of prayers that I sent up before God on behalf of my father. My parents’ relationship was on the verge of ending. Everyone knew what was wrong, myself included. He was not a faithful or just person. It angered me deep inside because I knew that he was capable of being better. So, I automatically got put in the category of being just like him. I consistently and constantly said to myself not so. However, things had changed in my parent’s and my life. He had a life threatening blood issue. Friends and family had gone, no one was left to his side but my mother, myself, and the prayer warriors of my church. I was deeply saddened by the prospect of losing him when our relationship had been so strained. Jesus told Peter that I pray that your faith fails you not. So, I knelt down to pray, the only that I had known to do at that point. The situation has turned around for the better as my father surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. I am 33 years old with an issue of being rejected and ridiculed by my father. I have went through years of suffering through alcoholic tirades, rumors of womanizing, and verbal abuse. However, I prayed and stayed in God’s face concerning the matter. I knew that God rewards those who diligently seek him. I was made to look like a fool through tears, hurts, and pains. However, I am proud to say today that my joy is full. God has gave my father a new start and I am too thankful. Our relationship and love is growing. God says that he will never put more on us than we can bear. Now, my mother and I have full joy and confidence. He has justified our sayings and prayers through the push of the voices of the naysayers. So, you should never stop praying if you believe in something. Salvation and redemption for any man and woman is the most important thing that we can ask God for. Cars, money, houses, accolades, these things pass. However, we want the salvation of the soul at all costs. I don’t want any of my family members to be lost. I thank God that he heard my cry and had pity upon my groan. I admonish you all to believe in the power of prayer for your own life. God wants to hear you call to him. God says that he won’t despise a brokenhearted or sincere person.

Jesus Had Friends?

Jesus said to the disciples in John 15:15, “No longer do I call you servants…..but I call you friends.” Why would God in the flesh, a future risen savior, call some very flawed men his friends. He explains throughout the verse. He said that a servant does not know the plans of his master. In the previous verses, Jesus told the disciples of the plan of redemption to save humanity from sin and eternal damnation. He let them listen and understand the divine plan of the Father. A servant does not have the intimacy of his master. The disciples now did. Therefore, from that point, he referred to them as friends. He also commanded them to love one another. We too can become friends of God. We are given intimate details through his holy word, the bible. A sustained life of prayer and bible study will help us to develop our friendship with God. However, it is up to the individual of how close a relationship to have. Will you just be a servant or a friend?

Technology: (Hurting or Helping our Youth)

Most of the sights that we all see on a daily basis are young people with their necks down, on the phone. When we should have the generation of the brightest, best, highly developed minds the world has seen, we instead have lazy, unmotivated young underachievers. The elevation of the speed at which information is received and gathered is at its peak in all of history. It is frightening to see that some kids struggle in school and in society. It is a shame when we would rather text the person next to us than to speak. The days of writing letters is now gone. There have been whispers of acknowledging text messaging as an official language. Wow, how about that! I once was proofreading a paper for a young student. The student wrote a research paper for a class filled with what she would text to a friend. Our children are attached to the hip with their phones, ipods, and mp3s. These things are not wrong. Should we ask ourselves what are our children doing with the information that they have? The internet has become merely a place for Facebook and downloading music. Kids have no interest in learning and the power of knowledge.

Learning Starts At Home

We should always encourage our children to investigate the world around them. The first school setting is the home in which a child is nurtured. Make sure that your child is familiar with numbers, shapes, and the difference of the five senses. Play is essential to any child’s growth. Parents always have to make time to be with and encourage their child. We just can’t depend on the schools to do this job. It is tough enough being a teacher. However, it is the parents duty to make sure that kids are learning at home first before heading to school. The first 3 – 5 years are crucial in a child’s cognitive development. Children who are read to at home have stronger confidence heading into the elementary level. A child should hear the parent read, in efforts to sound out words. Most parents dump off on the school system. However, a child has a better chance of overall success when the learning starts at home.

Christians, Stand Up!

As I watched a television program on Sunday night, I found myself very disturbed. It was a debate between two pastors as one believed that homosexual men should marry. This pastor said that he felt that it was a spiritual experience when one man married another. My pastor often says that all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. I think that Christians have been too passive for way to long. I also feel that we are too busy being preoccupied with our own lives to do God’s work. I was cut to the heart as I saw that this pastor was attempting to defend homosexual acts and attitudes. However, I hope that you will join me in standing up for Christianity and what the bible says about homosexuality. I hope that you will agree with me that homosexuality is an abomination within the eyesight of God. The devil has let his people roam free and Chrisitans don’t even know it. I want to make it clear that I do not have any angst against homosexuality. However, what God calls sin in the bible, it is sin to me. Let us not be ignorant and passive anymore. If you know the bible, defend it. If you don’t know the bible or Jesus, I invite you to know him.

Truth Decay

Today’s society has a severe case of truth decay. We often hear the phrase that the truth will set us free. However, what is that truth to is able to make free. The word of God is that truth. Jesus referred to himself as the way, the truth, and the life. Truth, to give, a definition can be state of being true or valid(my personal definition). We have to see the word of God and the bible as the truth and factual. This is where faith comes in at. Faith is believing in something or someone that shows no physical evidence.
